My name is Ekaterini Chrisopoulos- Vergos and I have had the pleasure of teaching at Merritt Academy since 2013. I previously taught at Trillium Academy, Merritt's sister school in Taylor, Michigan. I teach in the Social Studies department and have taught several classes since beginning my teaching career, including US History, Government, Economics, World History, World Geography, Michigan History, Current Events, Legal Studies, Ancient History, Exploring Colleges and Careers, US History Since 1945, and 8th Grade US history. I love all aspects of social studies education and enjoy sharing my passion for my subject with my students.
I love being able to give students opportunities to learn outside of the traditional classroom walls, and strive to take kids on educational field trips at least once during the school year. In year's past, we have visited the 36th US District Court, the Detroit Institute of Arts, taken tours at the Fisher and Guardian Buildings, visited the Wayne State University Planetarium, and have see the Broadway hit musical "Hamilton." I also love having speakers come in from outside the school to teach our students, including police officers, detectives, lawyers, college professors, parole officers, state representatives, and members of our United States military.
I graduated from Dakota High School, and earned a bachelor's degree in Political Science and International Studies with a minor in Business Administration from Wayne State University. I also earned a Master of Arts in Teaching degree in Social Studies Education, also from Wayne State University. My master's project was completing lessons for use at the Detroit Historical Museum.
My husband's name is George, and we have two amazing little children, Anastasia and Alexandros. We love to travel as a family and have visited many different historical locations throughout the United States and Europe.
